I write this post on a high note, most likely attributed to that fact that I just returned from a week of travel. I know that these moments come and go frequently, and I try to get better at accepting that fact.

However, something about human nature leaves us always longing for more.

By the world’s standards, OneRepublic’s lyric, “everything that kills me makes me feel alive” rings true. We are told that more likes, more alcohol, more money will fill us up. However, these things that feel euphoric in the moment – often leave us feeling empty and burnt out long after. Always. Wanting.

It’s time I seek more than temporary highs. What goes up, must come down. It’s a vicious cycle that I don’t find sustainable. I seek to quench this thirst through exactly the opposite at which it lusts for.

I believe this is how Jesus intended for us to live: forgetting ourselves long enough to lend a helping hand. This can seem hard to wrap our minds around because it is essentially the opposite of what we’re told will bring us happiness: self love.

However, after coming up short again and again, could it be that our creator knows us better than we know ourselves?

I’d like to explore that possibility. To do nothing for a year but love others first. I want to learn from it and be better for it. To see from another’s perspective and be better equipped to help others because of it.

It pains me to see how ever present anxiety and depression are in the world today. I believe that first-world countries, with technological conveniences, have lost sight of the little things. I think we’re starting to see that these were really the big things all along.

So I take with me an open mind, heart, and camera to places unknown. I am on a soul search for the unrelenting more that we so often seek. A journey transcending continental and cultural boundaries.

I hope what I can gain and share with you is a fresh perspective – one that leaves you grateful for your morning cup of coffee and in awe of the next rainbow you see.

There’s much to learn. I hope you’ll join. I guarantee you won’t leave the same.
